September Fishing Report 9/14/17

The inshore and nearshore scene both have a great bite with a number of species. Inshore the main target has been Snook and Trout. The Snook fishing is some of the best I have seen in a few years where a 20 plus Snook day is normal. The snook are stacked up in the bushes on a high tide almost everywhere down the south shore of Tampa Bay and in the drop offs and deep pot holes on the low tides. As for the Trout any deep grass in the 4-6ft range is holding plenty of fish in the 15-20in range which is perfect for filling the cooler and a great dinner! We are also catching a few Redfish and Flounder here and there mixed in with the trout and snook. Whitebait has been the bait of choice and also fresh cut bait such as Pinfish and Ladyfish. As for the nearshore scene the kingfish and sharks have been the main target for some hard pulling action. Locate the schools of bait on local hard bottom anywhere between a mile and ten miles off the beach and free line a live Blue Runner or threadfin around them for the best chance at hooking up. The bite will only continue to get better and better as the weather continues to warm. Also Tarpon fishing is only a few weeks from kicking off so don’t miss out on your chance this year to catch one of these trophy fish!
