Mid February Fishing Report 02/15/2018
The last two weeks of weather has been very warm for this time of year. It has kicked in a early Spring bite along with a normal Winter time bite.
The Sheepshead and Black drum bite is very good right now fishing around docks, passes and artificial reefs close to the beach. Your best bet is fishing with live shrimp on a knocker rig or jig head. The Snook, Trout and Redfish have turned onto spring time feeding mode. They are eating white bait with no problem now that the water has warmed up and have stayed that way for the last week or two.
Bait is holding on the local flats and bridges right now and can be caught easily by throwing the net. The March 1st opening of Snook season is coming fast and we are already catching a lot of slot fish. Along with a ton of underslot fish and a few overslot.
The nearshore fishing is still going very strong with a insane Hogfish bite. Fishing any hard bottom in between 30-50 feet of water will give you the best shot at these fish. You can also fill the box with plenty other goof eating fish such as Porgys, Snapper, Grunt, Sheepshead, etc.
Anytime now the Kingfish will make their spring appearance as long as the water keeps warming. It is shaping up to be a good spring season and if it stays warm like it has, the fishing will blow up even more then it is already!! Don’t miss out and get on the action!
